I've always had mixed feelings about being named Natasha. I was born in Europe to American parents that fell in love with the name. Between watching Rocky and Bulwinkle on tv and hearing stories about my birth country, I felt special as a child. As a teenager and young adult, the name embarrassed me. SUB-Teachers would ignore me during roll call because I didn't "look like a Natasha." Which is ironic because I have black hair, green eyes, and olive skin. Pretty much the Russian standard. Then classmates would tease that my name sounded like a slutty name (stripper, prostitute, porn star). When I was in customer service in my early 20s, customers always had opinions to share with me, but never about my coworkers. Irritating. Now, I feel as I did growing up. I love my name. It suits me. When I eat Indian or meet an IT tech, they always remember my name. The Russian shoe cobbler says my name beautifully and remembers me. The name exudes mystery and intrigue. Those that think poorly of my name are typically uneducated and are not cultured.

This name spelled backwards is ah satan. Not something I care about, but some people might want to know. Apparently my mom knew a person who named her daughter Natasha, and when they noticed the spelling, renamed their two-year-old daughter to Zoe.
